People keep calling my phone and I’ve finally worked it out! Deaf people can’t possibly own phones, and this must be common knowledge! Of course!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This totally explains why there will be difficulty explaining to a caller why the deaf phone owner cannot come to the phone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phone rings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I ignore it. If someone is going to be enough of a muppet they want to call me, they can waste their own time with the futility of that action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phone rings numerous times. No text message is left. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phone rings again. My grouchy partner gets annoyed and answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Hello? This is (deafinsociety)’s phone. If you want to talk to her you really need to email her.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kermit – “Hi. I am calling from xx. Can I talk to (deafinsociety) please?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Grouchy – “No you can’t. She is deaf. You need to email her.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kermit – “Oh… is she unwell?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Grouchy – (What the fucking fuck!?) – “Uh no. She is not unwell and she is still deaf. You need to email her to talk to her.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kermit – “Oh ok then. Can I talk to her for a few minutes?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Grouchy – (wow this guy) – “You can if you want but she can’t hear you. She is DEAF!!!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kermit – (the penny falls… from a very long distance…) “Oh!!! Of course. I’ll email her then.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So there you have it. Deaf people don’t own phones. And while I’m here I just had another epiphany! This totally must be the reason other deaf people have felt the need to have capitals!!! If we don’t capitalise our deafness then people just won’t get it! \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\n\n
