Check out this video of my little one using baby sign \ud83d\ude42 He has been signing for booby since about 5 months old. It started with squeezing my finger or boob and progressed to making fists, and then finally to the opening and closing repeatedly of his fist to communicate deliberately for booby. At the moment he is using it for both Mama \/ booby as we’re one and the same!
I’m also seeing the ‘babble’ of the sign for Mama beginning to form – he puts one hand above his head, and sometimes on his head. He is also aware of his fingers and the need to control his fingers (this is the babble seen in the first part of the video)! At 8 months though, he is already making the “Mama” sound as it is one he hears a LOT around here with 5 other siblings vying for attention! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I also have noticed he will use voice eg. grumble, whine, say “Mama” or cry depending on the person he is with, and use sign – the booby sign – with others. It is so amazing that he is already bilingual in his choices surrounding communication with the people he is around! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Immersion in sign language is the best way to pick up sign I’ve found. The more people that sign to communicate around a person, the quicker they pick it up! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
